We had a quick little vacation over the weekend. We took the kids camping for the first time. Eddie and I both grew up camping, but I had little desire to take crawling children camping, so we have been out of the camping picture for the last six years. We had a great time. The kids had a ball exploring, digging in the dirt, eating s'mores and just being kids. Eddie and I realized this is a lot of work with kids!

This was a really cool sanctuary created next to our tent area.

Hi Amy! We camped exclusively for vacations as kids. I didn't realize how much work it was until I became an adult and went camping, then went camping with kids. Its a LOT of work! From setting up, to cooking etc while there, to all the dirty clothes etc coming home. But we always had a great time and it looks like you guys did too! Seems it always rained when we camped.....did the weather cooperate for you?
Janice, camping was our family vacations as kids, too. We traveled all over the pacific northwest and canada camping and I remember thinking how peaceful it was. As a parent, I now realize that it's much more peaceful for the kids! We did have a lot of fun, though, especially watching the kids faces while eating their first s'mores.
The weather did cooperate. We had a few sprinkles, but nothing significant to "dampen" our enthusiasm...so to speak. We were worried as our last three trips prior to having kids were either rained or snowed out!
